Yokosuka Primary School first graders adopt USS Ralph Johnson
YOKOSUKA, Japan – First graders from Yokosuka Primary School (YPS) proudly participated in a special event to adopt the USS Ralph Johnson (DDG-114), marking the beginning of an exciting partnership between the school and the ship’s crew on Dec. 8, 2025.
The day began as students made their way to the barge, where the ceremony was held. They were warmly welcomed by Commander Justan A. “Jac” Caesar, Commanding Officer of USS Ralph Johnson, who delivered inspiring opening remarks about the importance of community and teamwork. Mary Fisk, Principal of Yokosuka Primary School, also shared heartfelt words about the value of this new connection and the opportunities it will bring for students and sailors alike.
Following the ceremony, students and sailors enjoyed a sweet celebration together with cake and ice cream, creating the first of many shared memories. This adoption represents more than just a ceremony – it’s the start of a meaningful relationship that will foster learning, friendship, and mutual support.
Together, YPS and the USS Ralph Johnson will build a strong and lasting bond between our first graders and the dedicated crew of the USS Ralph Johnson.
